The Photography Competition Results 2009
We asked you to send us your best photographs from the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2009, for our competition to win £1000 worth of prizes. We were inundated with entries, all of which were of a very high standard. After much deliberation, our panel of judges whittled the finalists down to these marvellous photographs.
1st prize

|
Rupert Pitts, Devon For our judges, this perfectly composed and hugely evocative shot captured the very essence of the 2009 Great Dorset show, with an unknown crew member carefully polishing the brasswork on the 1911 Marshall traction engine, No. 57375, Annie. While the sunshine gleams brightly off the spotless engine, a moody sky is portent of the rain showers to come. |
2nd prize
|
Andrew Marsh, Dorset A very recognisable Great Dorset landscape, depicting 1916 Burrell traction engine No. 3739, Pride of the West, making it's way around the heavy haulage arena in front of a beautifully tempestuous sky. |
3rd prize

|
Roger Loomes, Northampton One of only a few night time shots submitted to the competition, this photograph highlights the magical feel of the fairground section of the show, as two resplendent showman's engines colourfully illuminate their surroundings. |
4th prize

|
Gary Spicer, Dorset A completely timeless feel has been created here due to the photographer's use of sepia, the blurring out of the modern background and the engine driver's 'authentic' outfit. Taken in the heavy haulage arena, the picture shows the very well presented Burrell traction engine No. 3126, which is celebrating its centenary this year. |
5th prize

|
Mrs S Baird, Ayshire A particularly atmospheric shot shows a solitary, boiler suit-clad figure walking across the heavy haulage arena, with a number of steamers and commercials working away in the background. The originality of this shot particularly impressed our judges. |
