A message from Peter Johns, publisher of Vintage Spirit until October 2013
I am delighted to be able to write to you with the news that Vintage Spirit magazine has been acquired by Brian Gooding who will be familiar to many of you as the Founding Editor of Vintage Spirit. From the December issue Brian returns as Editor and Publisher of the magazine. Ted Tomlin remains as Advertising Manager.
We are proud of what we have achieved with Vintage Spirit under our stewardship for the last 10 years. We believe it has played a vital role in the steam preservation and restoration movement and indeed in the wider sphere of industrial heritage. We have been grateful for your support and crucially that of our many advertisers. We have reached the point, however, where we believe it needs fresh impetus, particularly in light of the growing demands and opportunities in the very different areas of publishing and event management in which the company operates. I believe that Brian, with his years of involvement in the steam movement (including many years in the Editor’s chair at Old Glory and Vintage Commercial Vehicles magazines (now Heritage Commercials) is now the person to lead the magazine through the next stage of its development. I will miss the day-to-day involvement with the movement but wish Brian and the magazine every success.
Brian Gooding commented:
I am looking forward tremendously to being back at the helm of Vintage Spirit, a magazine that has always been close to my heart and I am really excited about being back in the Editor’s chair. Vintage Spirit will join the well-established annual Steam Heritage Guide to heritage museums and events, whose website attracts a huge amount of traffic each month. I believe that having Vintage Spirit and Steam Heritage under the same roof will greatly add to the opportunities available to both publications. I would like to thank Peter Johns and his team at Waterways World for steering Vintage Spirit to where it is now. I am especially pleased that Advertising Manager Ted Tomlin is staying with the magazine to help with its development.
